Wall and floor tiling in Blackpool

Precision Joinery and Tiling lays wall and floor tiles across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast. Porcelain, ceramic, natural stone and decorative patterns, set out correctly before the first tile is cut. The preparation is done properly because that is what determines whether it still looks right in ten years.

Set out right, laid to last

Tiling looks straightforward from a distance. It is not. A tiled floor or wall is only as good as the surface underneath it, the adhesive chosen for that specific tile weight and substrate, and the person who set it out before a single piece was cut. We start every tiling job with the preparation, not the tile.

We work across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast on kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, living spaces and commercial premises. The tile can come from anywhere. We will advise on what works for the application and what does not before you order, which avoids the expensive mistake of buying two hundred square metres of something that is not suitable for a floor in a busy hallway.

What a tiling job includes

Every tiling project is priced from measurements and a look at the substrate, but this is what a full tiling contract with us normally covers. The spec is confirmed before work starts.

  • Substrate checked, primed and prepared
  • Waterproofing applied where required
  • Tile layout set out before cutting begins
  • Adhesive selected for tile weight and substrate
  • Tiles cut and laid to agreed pattern
  • Grout joints sized correctly for the tile
  • Natural stone sealed before and after grouting
  • Silicone lines finished at all changes of plane

Wall and floor tiling across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast

We tile bathroom walls and floors, kitchen splashbacks, hallway floors, utility rooms, conservatories, external terraces and commercial spaces. Tile formats range from 75x150mm metro through to 1200x600mm large-format porcelain slabs. Pattern work, including herringbone, checkerboard, brick bond and feature borders, is something we carry out regularly and price accurately before we start.

Natural stone, including travertine, slate, limestone and marble, needs different preparation, adhesive and sealing than porcelain or ceramic. We work with all of them. Encaustic cement tiles, Moroccan-style patterned tiles and handmade terracotta all have their own fixing requirements, and getting those wrong shows immediately and worsens quickly. The quote always specifies which products we are using and why.

What to expect during a tiling project

We protect surrounding surfaces before work starts. The substrate is inspected, primed and levelled where needed before any tile is fixed. The layout is dry-run on the floor or wall before cutting begins, so that any adjustment to centre the pattern or avoid a sliver cut at a door happens before adhesive is mixed rather than during the job.

How the tiling process works

A site visit or a clear set of photos and measurements allows us to quote accurately. We specify the adhesive, grout and any preparation materials in the quote so there are no surprises. Work is carried out in the sequence that best protects the finished surface. Grouting and sealing follow curing periods recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.

Why Precision Joinery and Tiling for your tiling project

Preparation before the tile, every time

The most common reason tiles fail is that the substrate was not checked or prepared properly before fixing started. We never skip that stage. Flex in floors is addressed, hollow plaster is cut out, waterproofing goes on before a single tile is fixed, and the adhesive is chosen for the actual tile weight rather than whatever is in the van.

Honest advice before you buy

Large-format tiles need perfectly flat substrates. Some natural stones are not suitable for wet areas. Cement tiles need sealing before and after grouting or the grout stains them. We tell you this before you order, not after the tile is on the wall and the grout has left a permanent shadow across the surface.

Part of a bigger job or standalone

Tiling with us can be a standalone contract or part of a kitchen or bathroom installation. When it is part of a bigger job the tile layout is planned around the sanitaryware, cabinetry and floor transitions from the beginning, so everything lines up as designed rather than as an afterthought.

What customers say

Cannot rate Craig enough. He has done an amazing job of tiling my bathroom floor after another plumber botched the job of fitting the bathroom. Highly recommend Craig and really looking forward to having him back to do some more jobs in my house. Really nice guy and fantastic work.

Craig has recently hung some oak doors for us. We were really delighted with the workmanship and would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone.

I phoned Craig desperately wanting some help with fitting my bathroom. He was very quick to respond, gave me a quote within a couple of days and was most helpful with picking the best boards and flooring. He is very genuine, honest and always puts 100 per cent into his work.

Questions

Wall and floor tiling questions answered

What types of tile do you lay?

We lay porcelain, ceramic, natural stone including travertine and slate, encaustic cement tiles, metro tiles and large-format slabs up to 1200x600mm. If it is a tile and it needs laying properly, we can do it. We advise on which tile suits the application before anything is ordered, because some materials need specific adhesive or grout and not every substrate is suitable.

Do you prepare the substrate as well as lay the tiles?

Yes. Good tiling depends on what is underneath far more than most people realise. We check floors for flex, prime walls, apply waterproofing where it is needed and use the right adhesive for the tile weight and substrate. Skipping preparation is the most common reason tiles crack or come away after a year.

Can you tile over existing tiles?

Sometimes. If the existing tiles are fully bonded, flat and the right substrate, tiling over them saves time and reduces disruption. If any are hollow or lifting, they all have to come off, because one bad tile under the new ones will eventually cause the surface above it to fail. We check and advise honestly.

How long does tiling take?

A standard bathroom wall and floor takes two to three days. A kitchen splashback is usually half a day. Large hallway floors, full-room porcelain jobs and complex pattern work with cuts take longer. We give you a time estimate at the quote stage based on the actual area and the tile you have chosen.

Do you do the grout and silicone as well?

Yes. Grouting, pointing and siliconing are part of the job. We use the right grout joint size for the tile and the room, seal natural stone before and after grouting, and make sure the silicone lines at changes of plane are neat and properly tooled.

Can you tile a floor that has underfloor heating?

Yes. We lay tile over electric UFH mats and pipe systems. The mat or pipe is checked before the tile goes down and the floor is not walked on until the adhesive has fully cured. We also leave the heating off for the recommended period before switching on, to avoid thermal shock in the adhesive.

How much does wall and floor tiling in Blackpool cost?

Tiling is priced per project based on the area, the tile format, the complexity of the layout and the substrate preparation needed. A phone call or a few photos usually gives us enough to provide a rough figure, and the site visit confirms the written price.

Ready to discuss your tiling project?

Send us the room dimensions or a few photos. We will come out and take a look, advise on the substrate if needed and put a written price together at no charge.
